Rest on your private hammocks. Enjoy the unique décor of West African textiles. Original artwork, carvings, etc. reed fences, bamboo screens and tropical landscaping will enhance your privacy. African paintings and imported batik and mudcloth fabrics from Mali adorn the tents which are appointed with comfortable bedding and wicker or wood carved furniture. Guests enjoy the unassuming luxury of bathing behind a bamboo screen with shower head beneath a noni tree, or (only in the tree house) a hot water jacuzzi open to the elements and panorama of Boston Bay, of walking barefoot along the white pebble meandering pathways, of standing on a soft white sand floor which covers the ground of the tent-bedroom and swinging in one of the inumerable hammocks with a view. In the center of the resort you will find outdoor showers, a tree trunk sink, and bathrooms.

Even for the more conservative you can't beat a morning shower in the midst of mother nature's treasures. Some huts come with private adjoining showers. Scattered across a lush rainforest landscape overlooking the famed Boston Bay beach are huts, tents, yurts, a tree house, and a stone house- each with its own unique design and theme. The natural old world appearance belies the strength of our construction. Camouflaged steel and concrete adds strength to each dwelling.
Breakfast of coffee, freshly squeezed juice, fruit and eggs is enjoyed on one of the many stone sculptural platforms adjoining a garden of intuitive design pots and human forms or may be taken inside the community kitchen, a 30 by 50 foot grand space in which stone columns and primitive African motifs are juxtoposed with stainless steel appliances and modern accoutrements, like the plasma TV.

Additional meals are provided as you so wish by Dean- his Jamaican cooking is a delight. A stone pathway down through the 'jungle' leads you to the 100 foot long pebble beach, smaller sandy beach and dramatic natural sea pool. Or beyond - for the non-faint of heart and able footed- you may rock scramble along the huge volcanic strewn boulders and ca! vernous pathways, which makes a great hike, with awe-inspiring vistas. The snorkeling is beautiful in the crystal clear aquamarine waters adjoining our beach and cliff front. You may even swim inside a number of sea caves when the sea is very calm. Byron, the manager, is Jamaican Lebanese, low key, smart and really cares about the guests. |

He's done most of the building guided by the intuitive artistry of owner Paul Rhodes, a medical doctor who volunteers extensively across the Island and is an active Rotarian, currently President of the Port Antonio Rotary Club. Upon request Great Huts will organize a concert of African drumming and dance by noted artist and musician, Ombekele and his lovely family. We can do this as part of our interfaith sabbath dinner, if you wish - spiritual not religious.

Ancient volcanic activity has lifted our fossilized coral reef about 60 feet above the sea. Our surface is limestone, fossil and black lava with an abundance of flora especially sea grape, noni tree, almond tree, philodendron and cactus. Geckos and hermit crabs make for perfect companions in this outdoor haven. Our south cliff offers spectacular views of Boston Beach. Be sure to stop by and indulge yourself to the flavors of the Boston Jerk stand the birthplace of jerk pork and chicken, located right outside Great Hut's entrance.
If you get the chance, we highly recommend the tree house... it is something else. A private outdoor Jacuzzi tub overlooking the Caribbean Sea... a king size bed awaits you at the top of the tree house- where nature and romance become one. |
