Blue Lagoon
| The Blue Lagoon, called “Blue
Hole” by residents, is a small cove nearly bound
by land, and is one of the most scenic spots in Jamaica.
It is not, however, the Blue Lagoon made famous by Brooke
Shields “au naturel” swim in the movie of
the same name. The locals tell tales of sea monsters deep
below its surface, and famed oceanographer Jacques Cousteau
claims to have dived down to 200 feet and found no bottom.
Its blue and green hued water is kept cool by hundreds
of tiny, underground mineral springs. David Lee made his
record-breaking free dives right here at the Blue Lagoon
with nothing but the air in his lungs. |

You do not need to try a free dive to enjoy the lagoon, which
is also one of the most romantic spots in Port Antonio. Many
couples choose this location as the place to tie the knot:
the bride sails in on a raft adorned in wildflowers to meet
her groom. Waterside dining is available at the Blue Lagoon
Restaurant, serving homemade jerk specialties paired with
the famous Blue Lagoon cocktail, a mixture of fruit juice,
rum, and secret ingredients as mysterious as the lagoon itself.
